OUR BUILDING

The East Bay Community Space is located at the corner of Telegraph Avenue and 55th Street in the Upper Temescal District of Oakland. Our building was once the location of the venerable Leo’s Audio Store, and also briefly housed Leo’s Night Club.

Our main event space is entered from 55th Street and has a street address of 507 55th Street. Its main assembly area is about 1,500 square feet with a Virginia Oak dance floor, a portable stage, and a full sound and light system. It also features  a mezzanine and restrooms with six all-gender toilet stalls, shower, sauna, and a craft and hobby space with sinks and counters. It can seat 80 to 100 for stage or theatrical shows (depending on stage size), and we have capacity of 150 to 200 for parties, receptions and similar events.

Our storefront space at the corner of Telegraph and 55th Street, known as the Telegraph Room, is also available for rent. This space features an entry directly from Telegraph and has a varnished plywood floor and extensive track lighting.

Upstairs, we also have 15′ x 13′ Meeting Room, which can hold up to 10 people depending on the type of activity.

EBCS also houses The Well Cafe, which faces Telegraph Avenue.

We acquired the building in March 2016, and remodeled the space for the remainder of that year. We held our Grand Opening on February 4, 2017.

We run occasional Open Houses and Work Days so that people can see the building and get involved. For the next open house and work day dates: click here.
