East Bay Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) holds semi-regular meetings of its Socialist Night School at EBCS.
East Bay DSA has endorsed Eduardo Martinez and Jamin Pursell from the Richmond Progressive Alliance this election cycle. RPA is a community-based political organization in Richmond CA. During the 2000s and 2010s, it altered the balance of power in the city and reduced the representation of Chevron-backed candidates. The alliance fought to make Chevron pay its fair share in taxes, extracting a total of $204 million from the company to fund social programs.
Steve Early, the author of the book Refinery Town, will be joining us for this night school and speaking on the history of the RPA. Shiva Mishek will also speak on how the current campaigns tie into that history and how we can help build power in Richmond to keep up the fight against Chevron.
