VIRTUAL Our Communities Our Health: Take Back Alameda Health System

Join SEIU 1021, the California Nurses Association, GABRIELA, and East Bay DSA for a digital town hall to highlight how the structure of the current public health system has failed our community, and what we can do as a collective to create a just public health system that is accountable to our communities.

For decades our public health system in Alameda county (Alameda Health System) has been underfunded, mismanaged, and run like a for profit business. While CEOs and politicians slash budgets and lay off workers, the multiracial working class of the East Bay goes without life saving care that should be guaranteed as a human right.

Currently, Alameda Health System is run by an unelected and unaccountable Board of Trustees, rather than our elected county government. This board imposes strict austerity measures and uses union busting tactics, like firing workers who speak out about unsafe conditions. But it’s also free of any democratic accountability to the people of Alameda County, making it harder for us to demand a healthcare system that puts human life before the bottom line.

Healthcare workers, patients, and working people across the East Bay are saying enough is enough! It’s time for a health care system that is democratic, fully funded, and works for all working people. It’s time to put public health back in public hands!
