Right Use of Power: Embodied Ethics in the Therapeutic Relationship (6.0 CE)

October 17 @ 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

About the Workshop

Psychologists navigate power dynamics in every clinical encounter, often without fully recognizing how power is shaping the relationship. This experiential ethics workshop integrates the Right Use of Power™ framework with contemporary neurobiological perspectives to examine how role, status, identity, authority, and personal power operate within therapeutic and professional relationships. Through discussion, reflection, and embodied practice, participants will examine the ethical responsibilities associated with power differentials, patterns of overusing or underusing power, and practices for rupture, accountability, and repair, all in service of protecting client agency, dignity, and autonomy.

Learning Objectives

After attending this event, attendees will be able to:
1. Describe six forms of power and give one example of each in clinical practice.
2. Analyze a case to identify three power dynamics and explain their impact on client agency and ethical practice.
3. Identify one personal pattern that may lead to overuse or underuse of power.
4. Demonstrate two strategies for interrupting the shadow of power.
5. Apply two practices to invite client feedback and respond skillfully.
