Unbound - Finding freedom in Rope Dance
Join us for a unique somatic conversation on the dance floor – one where contact dance meets rope play.
Unbound is an exploration where you can discover new pathways of movement with the fluidity and flow of rope as a tool to connect to yourself and others. Finding the freedom in feeling unbound from all the ways we confine ourselves and open to boundless ways to play.
We will start off the evening with an hour long Rope Dance class taught by Brian O’Connell, followed by 2 hours of movement and dance with the invitation to integrate rope into your explorations. DJ Maya Light will be providing the soundscape for the evening, so you know it’s gonna be deliciously wompy…
If you are new to contact improv, we highly recommend you join us for the class so that you can learn some basics. Though rope play is the flavor of this particular exploration, it is merely a possibility to mess around with. After the class is over, you are encouraged to follow your desires however your body wants to move – with or without rope.
Logistics
-Class starts promptly at 7pm (so arrive by 6:30pm to get settled in) and goes until 8pm
-Music starts at 8-10pm
-Closing circle at 10pm

Brian O’Connell has lived and played in the intersection of bodywork, contact improv, and kink/bdsm for the past two decades. They have a passion for creating safer spaces for people to learn and grow through new experiences. Embodiment, presence, attunement and communication are key foundations to everything they share/teach. In the last decade, they’ve created numerous intimate events and led classes/workshops to help people explore different parts of themselves through the realms of sensuality, sexuality and kink/BDSM.
Rope Dance is their new favorite passion to share with the world as another way of playful engagement and exploration through the merging of contact improv and rope.
Maya Light loves to dive into the depths of connection and expression through the unique and captivating conversation that is awakened on the dance floor. She plays as a director of the human experience, offering countless pathways and possibilities of movement through the range of diverse music she shares.
Drawn to deliciously wompy, heart-bass world beats, she encourages a rich exploration with a dynamically nourishing and inspiring journey of sound.
