Temple of Celluloid: Monty Python's The Holy Grail

“Your Mother was a Hamster, and your Father smelt of Elderberries!”

there are three films that I cannot help but quote nearly every day: Weird Science (RIP Bill Pullman), Borat, and Monty Python’s The Holy Grail. How the boys got to a create a medieval epic that is equally fantastical, creative and irreverent is beyond me, but this is a film like no other. Many people don’t know that Terry Gilliam of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and 13 Monkeys was a member, animator and director of a lot of Monty Python’s work. He, on a budget that pales in comparison of his later work for Hollywood, co-created an Arthurian legend that mocks and pokes at the tropes and has you waxing philosophical about the flight of swallows.
Cover your eyes as Sir Lancelot goes on a manic and murderous rampage. Cheer on a wise cracking sword-fighter who talks smack even as he increasingly loses limbs. Duck for cover as a Frenchman tosses a cow at his British enemies. Meet King Arthur and his squire, Patsy trailing behind his lord with a pair of coconuts. The journey will be long and dangerous. “What is your favorite color?” One wrong answer and you could die! Prepare to get offended and hold your guts in as you guffaw over such ridiculousness only worthy of the Monty Python lads, one of the funnest crew of gentlemen that have changed the comedic landscape forever.

Sliding Scale tix 8-15 bucks
